COBDEN may be sitting seventh on the ladder, but senior coach Dan Casey is thrilled with his side’s performance to date.

“If I’d been asked back in round one where I thought we’d be at this stage, I’d honestly have said on or very close to the bottom of the ladder,” Casey said.

“But sitting seventh with three wins, I’m very pleased – the boys are doing really well."

“We haven’t been flogged by the top sides and actually had we continued to play those games for the full four quarters we may have even gotten close to a few more wins.”

With wins against Camperdown, Port Fairy and Terang Mortlake, Casey is hoping his side can notch up another three or four wins before the end of the home-and-away season.

“Our aim now is to see if we can score a few more wins on the back end of the season and also try to pinch a couple more."

“Finals aren’t totally out of the question but realistically it is a huge task from where we’re sitting at the moment and I don’t think we’re quite there yet,” Casey said.

“But there’s a lot of positives at the club. Our reserves are playing good footy and could play finals.”

Casey praised reserves’ co-coaches Nick Kemp and Nic Nieuwenhuizen.

“The first couple of rounds they (the reserves) got flogged but since then the two Nick’s have really turned that side around,” Casey said.

“Both the ressies and our under 18s are looking at being finals contenders and that’s great for our club."

“We have four or five from the under 18s who are also playing senior footy and that stands the club in good stead for the future."

“The remainder of the season will be an exciting one and we’re all looking forward to the upcoming rounds.”
