Rain welcomed, but more needed
HEAVY rainfall experienced over the King’s Birthday long weekend was welcomed by farmers this week.

Camperdown saw a total of 74.6mm of rainfall over three days, which just falls short of the long-term June average of 75mm.
The rainfall, however, is an improvement of autumn’s rainfall total of 63mm.
Meanwhile, Derrinallum experienced 61.8mm of rainfall over the three days – just above autumn’s total rainfall of 61.6mm.
The figure is also higher than the long-term monthly average of 56.6mm.
The highest daily rainfall of the long weekend was experienced on June 9, with 28.6mm of rain falling in 24 hours.
While Camperdown and Derrinallum saw an improvement from the overall rainfall in autumn, Lismore experienced less rainfall over the long weekend.
Lismore saw 55.6mm over the King’s Birthday long weekend, which is below the 71mm experienced over autumn.
The figure, however, was more than the June average of 53.8mm in Lismore.
The highest daily rainfall experienced in Lismore was 27.2mm, which was recorded on June 9.
While the rainfall was welcomed, more is needed to reduce drought conditions across the district.
