Reigning premiers too strong
KOLORA-Noorat was competitive in its round 13 Warrnambool and District senior football match on Saturday, going down to reigning premiers Nirranda by 17 points.
The low-scoring match, played in wet conditions at the Nirranda Recreation Reserve, saw the home team run out 4.15.39 to 3.4.22 winners.
“Like we generally are most weeks, we were very competitive but not quite good enough to get the win,” Power coach Shane Scanlon said.
“We had a few opportunities to kick goals early in the game and just didn’t quite nail those opportunities, so a competitive game again but unfortunately just can’t quite get the four points.”
Defender Brad Lucas was best for Kolora-Noorat in the loss.
“Brad played centre half back and just handled the conditions pretty well for a player of fairly good size.
“He intercepted a fair bit of their play and went hard at it in straight lines which was suited to that sort of a day.”
Ted Kenna, Fred Beasley, Caleb Kavanagh, Sam Uwland and Henry Kenna were also in the best for the Power, with Bailey Cooper, Mitchell Wyss and Louis Cahill kicking a goal each.
“Nirranda probably just handled the conditions a bit better, they’ve got a pretty good side anyway as well, so they might be hard to beat throughout the back end of the year.”
This week the Power’s senior team has the bye, with the rest of the club playing Dennington at Dennington.
“A week off won’t hurt, they weren’t major injuries but we ended up without a bench by the end of the day, down to no rotations at the end.
“So the week off will be pretty handy for a few sore boys, hopefully we’ll be pretty close to full strength when we come back.”
In the reserves, Nirranda was dominant, winning 21.15.141 to 1.0.6.
Ben Whytcross, Harry Standish and Jack Pekin were best for the Power seconds, with Cameron Cutler kicking the lone goal.
The under 18.5 game saw Kolora-Noorat record a big 12.14.86 to 0.1.1 win.
Beau Mitchell, Xavier Riches and Ben Whytcross were best for the Power, with Damon Anders kicking five goals, Whytcross and Kai Tonkin two each with one apiece to Dermot Conheady, Paddy Scanlon and Sonny Podger.
The under 13.5 game saw Kolora-Noorat register a 6.8.44 to 3.0.18 win.
Charlie Davis, Jack Menz and Charlie Simpson were best for the junior Power, with Riley McIntosh and Hamish Messer kicking two
goals each.
The Power’s A grade netball team also pushed Nirranda hard, the home team scoring a 42-37 victory.
Mahni Beasley, Jade Byron and Ailish Glennen were Kolora-Noorat’s best, with Tara Elliott continuing her good form with a match high 36 goals.
The A reserve game saw Nirranda score a 40-14 win.
Best for the Power were Sophie Lehmann, Jessica Beasley and Hayley Collins with Grace Lee scoring seven goals.
In the B grade netball, Nirranda scored a 50-26 win.
Kolora-Noorat’s best were Alexis Ameduri, Alexandra Smith and Emily Hayden, with Smith shooting 21 goals.
The 17 and under netball saw the Power win 37-16.
Harriot Riches, Olivia Coburn and Millicent Black were best, with Riches shooting 29 goals in the win.
The 15 and under game saw a 22-12 win to Kolora-Noorat.
Ruby Williams, Zoe Roberts and Syriah Guy were the Power’s best, with Isla Spokes shooting nine goals and Skyla Coburn seven.
The Power were too strong in the 13 and under netball, winning 33-9.
Georgie Mellington, Lahnii O'Neil and Lucy Elliott were best for Kolora-Noorat, with O’Neil shooting 19 goals and Indi Blair 14.
In the 11 and under game, Nirranda scored a 13-11 win.
