Richard Riordan flags concern with project
A GROUP of Camperdown residents have expressed concerns over a proposal for a 26 home development in Fenton Street.

A GROUP of Camperdown residentshave expressed concerns over a proposal for a 26 home development in Fenton Street.
The group met with Member for Polwarth Richard Riordan last week to talk through the concerns on Friday.
Group spokesperson John Maher said residents in the street were concerned about the density of the proposed project.
He said the houses should be spread across the shire.
“Where is the need for this type of development,” Mr Maher questioned.
“Car parking is a big issue.
“The design as it is, for the first stage there’s not access for garbage and fire trucks.”
Mr Riordan agreed to raise their concerns at Parliament.
“This project is too big for Camperdown and the voices of the community need to be taken into account,” he said.
“The Corangamite Shire wants the 26 more affordable homes in the shire, but they need to be spread across Corangamite’s many towns.
“This makes sense, is in line with Government policy of more inclusive housing.
“This project as flagged is a clumsy attempt to build cheap housing that is not in keeping with the feel of a country town.”
The project is part of the Big Housing Build initiative across the state, with the state providing funding for 13 social housing homes to be delivered in partnership with Women’s Housing Limited.
However, plans show 23 homes could eventually be built on the site if approved.
The projects are part of almost $740 million to be invested in 89 community housing projects across the state.
The homes will be made available to those in most need of housing including people living with mental illness or disability, people escaping family violence, Victoria’s First Peoples and individuals experiencing homelessness.
Corangamite Shire mayor Ruth Gstrein also attended the meeting said the council did not have a position about the proposed build as it had not been discussed yet.
