Roller disco set to return
SKATE enthusiasts are being encouraged to lace up their skates and venture to the Camperdown Stadium (2 Fuller Street) for the return of Warrnambool Roller Derby’s annual Roller Disco on Friday, June 26.
The disco, running for its third year, will see children from ages five and up start their school holidays with music and skating from 6-8pm.
Warrnambool Roller Derby League president Rose Ceratops said the club was thrilled to bring the Roller Disco back for a third year, allowing them to spread the joy of roller-skating to a wider group.
“We are able to provide free entry to participants this year due to the support of the council, but we are hoping that there are some other community groups at the event with a barbecue or canteen,” she said,
“This year we have been able to bring across a local upcoming DJ to run the music side of things – DJ J4ck4l0pe was part of a FreeZa event we facilitated in Warrnambool last year and we are excited to have them back on board.
“We have more skates available than previous years and thanks to Bunnings Warrnambool we are able to streamline our transport getting everything there and set up.
“This means we should see more people on skates than ever, run some more games maybe a dance competition.”
Safety equipment and skates are provided on the night, allowing even those new to skating to give it a go.
Ms Ceratops extended her gratitude to everyone who has supported the planning behind the event.
“Warrnambool Roller Derby is run entirely by volunteers, who give up their time each and every disco, starting with the communication and planning, through to packing the gear up and checking it for wear and tear and running amazing nights like this before bringing it all home and resetting our own space for the next event,” she said.
“We cannot do it without the ongoing support of those volunteers, their families and the appreciation of the wider community, without whom we wouldn’t be able to have events like this happen.”
A free boxing bootcamp will also be on offer for teens, running from 5-6pm.
