Send a postcard to the mayor

CORANGAMITE school students can now drop a line to mayor councillor Kate Makin through a simple postcard.

Cr Makin said the idea was suggested at a breakfast with the mayor event held in Timboon in July.

“It’s a chance for young people to share their ideas, feedback, concerns or shout-outs,” she said.

“Whether it’s a creative proposal, a community issue or something great happening at school, this is a meaningful way for young voices to be heard,” she said.

Cr Makin said sending a postcard was a small but powerful step in encouraging civic engagement.

“Young people deserve to have a voice in shaping their community,” she said.

“This initiative is part of council’s ongoing engagement with young people as we develop a new Youth Strategy for Corangamite Shire.

“It reflects the spirit of collaboration and open dialogue that our breakfast with the mayor sessions aim to foster.”

Cr Makin has been visiting local secondary schools to deliver suggestion boxes and brightly coloured postcards.

Boxes are now in place at Camperdown College, Timboon P-12 School, Cobden Technical School and Terang College.

Derrinallum P-12 College and Mercy Regional College will receive theirs next term.
