Snr Const Bec Clark joins Mortlake Police

MORTLAKE Police welcomed a new addition last week with Senior Constable Bec Clark transferring from Warrnambool Police to return a little closer to home.
Snr Const Clark said the opportunity to transfer to Mortlake also allowed her to pursue her passion of policing in a rural region.
“I grew up around Terang so I have sort of come home without coming home,” she said.
“I’m a country person at heart and I saw this as an opportunity to come back to the area and do some country policing.”
She said there was a bit more diversity in rural policing due to greater opportunities to do more pro-active work.
“I enjoy having the opportunity to be out among the community,”she said.
“I enjoy chatting with people and getting to know people.
“You don’t get a chance to do that in the busier stations, so hopefully I can have a positive role in the community.
“That’s one of the reasons why I came here.”
She did not stray too far from the region in her five years with Victoria Police, serving three years at Portland before transferring to Warrnambool for the last two years.
Snr Const Clark said she has a “great interest” in traffic policing, which was a point of emphasis for police in rural areas.
“I absolutely love it,” she said
“I have done a bit of time in highway patrol so that is one aspect of the role I am looking forward to.
“You get to do a little bit more on country roads than you would in the busy city roles so I consider that to be my area of expertise.
“Hopefully we can get out there, help to change driver attitudes and make the roads a bit safer.”
Snr Const Clark said she was a school teacher prior to beginning her career with Victoria Police, and looks forward to getting to meet local students.
“I’m interesting in putting back in to the local schools,” she said.
Snr Const Clark said she welcomes the opportunity to meet members of the community and encouraged everyone to say hi and introduce themselves.
“That’s what I’m here for,”she said.
