The Magpies went down 10.12.72 to 7.9.51.

Despite the loss, Camperdown coach Clinton Thomas was pleased with his team’s application.

“It was a real four quarter effort; we played well in general and had a crack throughout,” he said.

“We certainly had our opportunities, if we had converted better and got the ball into the forward line a bit better, things could have been different.”

The super consistent Harry Sumner was best for the Magpies; the sixth time in seven games this season he has been named in Camperdown’s best players.

“Harry’s fantastic, it’s pretty much wind him up and let him go; he’s always hungry for a challenge and wants to be better,” Thomas said.

“Every week he takes on one of the opposition’s best mids, he never takes a backward step.”

Nick Jones and Josh Place were also named in the best.

“Jonesy is standing up and doing really well in the ruck,” Thomas said.

“Josh played a fantastic game off half back, he gave us plenty of rebound.”

Under 18 players Albie Cheeseman and Aidan Conheady hit the scoreboard with two goals and one goal respectively.

“Albie hunted the ball in the forward line and his forward defensive pressure was great; Aidan moves around the forward arc well and always looks dangerous,” Thomas said.

Bayley Thompson was the Magpies other multiple goal scorer with two.

This week Camperdown takes on Cobden at Cobden, and for Thomas it will be his first involvement in the storied rivalry.

“There’s been a little bit of talk about what these games mean, I grew up at Hamilton Imperials, our clashes with the Hamilton Magpies were big events, these type of games always have a bit more meaning,” he said.

“Cobden has pushed teams every single week, we’ll have to play well if we are to beat them.”
