Stores to start Christmas shopping period early
IT’S beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Camperdown, with a new shopping night being introduced this year to encourage residents to fill their stockings with local gifts.
Based on the success of the annual Fashions on Manifold night, Vintage Gnotuk’s Kirsty Green has organised a Christmas in Manifold night to be held from 5-8pm on Thursday, November 28.
She said the idea came from the positive feedback given from Fashions on Manifold, which aimed at promoting shopping locally while having a social night out.
“I’ve had so many customers come and ask if we could do something like that for Christmas because it’s such a fun night,” Ms Green said.
“We thought we’d go and talk to all the business and see if anyone wants to be involved, and we had an unbelievable response.
“It’s just a shopping night purely for people to come in and see what the local stores have got – lots of the shops are going to have bargains, some shops are going to do little Christmas parties in the shop – just to celebrate the start of the season.
“Some of the stores will do some drinks and nibbles – not everyone is going to do it.
“Each business will do their own thing, just to give it a real Christmas party atmosphere.
“It was just good timing – everyone’s got their Christmas stock out, and it’s got a lovely feel to it.”
Ms Green said the primary goal of the night was to promote keeping business local as the festive season looms, which is often a time where residents do their Christmas shopping out of town or online.
“Hopefully we can get locals to come in the local businesses and see what we’ve got available, and to get together with their friends,” she said.
“Everybody’s so busy, so if we can get them together with their friends, go for a wander and go and have dinner – just catch up, be social and grab a bargain.
“It’s just to get everyone together for some fun.
“It’s hard to because so many people are working – it’s good to offer hours that are outside working hours.”
