Students celebrate end of schooling
THE nervous wait for Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) students waiting for their official results came to an end last Thursday.

Cobden Technical School acting principal Narelle Holiday said the school’s highest scoring student and DUX of the 2024 cohort was Samuel Leeson.
“Samuel received ADF Future Innovators Stem award for his excellence in Mathematics and Technology subjects in 2022,” she said.
“In 2023 he received the WestVic VET top student award.”
Mrs Holliday said this year’s cohort included 11 Year 12 students, with five completing VCE and six completing VCE Vocational Major (VCEVM).
“We are very proud of our graduating students and wish them every success as they move into the next stage of their lives,” she said.
“At Cobden Technical School we place equal emphasis on all senior school pathways including VCE, VCEVM and VET.
“Our awards presentation day is this week with further VCE, Vocation Major and VET awards to be announced alongside other prestigious citizenship awards.”
Samuel said he was pleased with the accolade.
“I’m feeling pretty good,” he said.
“I wasn’t really expecting it.”
Samuel said he studied English, General Mathematics, Business Management and Engineering Studies (VCE VET).
His enjoyment of Mathematics and Technology inspired him to study Engineering at Deakin University.
“Thank you to my parents and my teachers for their support,” Samuel said.
Timboon P-12 School’s DUX for 2024 was Hannah Brown.
School principal Matt Dodson congratulated all students on their results and efforts.
“Today (last Thursday) in Timboon we are celebrating the release of our Year 12 results,” he said.
“All students have been in touch with our VCE coordinator, expressing their enthusiasm and positivity regarding their indivudal results and the exciting pathways that lie ahead.
“We are particularly proud to announce that our DUX for this year is Hannah Brown, whose dedication and hard work have certainly paid off.
“Congratulations Hannah on this remarkable achievement.”
Mr Dodson said in addition to university pathways, many of the students were exploring diverse options which align with their aspirations and skills.
“This year’s cohort of 14 Year 12 students have demonstrated resilience, determination, and a commitment to their future, and we are excited to see where their journeys will take them,” he said.
“As a school community, we would like to congratulate all of our Year 12 graduates and support them as they embark on their next adventures, whether that be in higher education, vocational training, or the workforce.”

Hannah said she was feeling proud of herself.
“I did work really hard this year,” she said.
“I’m taking a gap year and I might go to university in 2026.
“I’m looking at fine arts at RMIT.”
Hannah studied English, Math Methods, Art Making and Exhibiting, Japanese Second Language and VET Music.
She said her family was proud of her results.
“I couldn’t have done it without my teachers,” Hannah said.
“I had a lot of support.”
