Students enjoy new basketball court
THANKS to two years of fundraising, St Colman’s Primary School students now have a new undercover basketball court to enjoy.
THANKS to two years of fundraising, St Colman’s Primary School students now have a new undercover basketball court to enjoy.
The school introduced the raffle in 2021 as a way for students to get involved with the community while helping to raise funds to improve their school.
The first year of the raffle raised $9683 from the sale of 521 raffle tickets across the community, which covered installation costs for the “shed” structure.
The second year of the raffle saw 514 tickets sold to raise $9278 towards the addition of a new soft surface over the basketball court.
The works to install the new soft surface court were completed last week after the ‘shed’ area was erected last year.
St Colman’s Primary School principal Janet Cain said students had been racing out to hit the hoops on their lunch break following the completion of works.
“The students love it,” she said.
“It’s already proven to be a great all-weather addition after a few cold, wet days and a few hot, sunny days.
“Seeing them play undercover in all conditions has been great.
“Hopefully we’ll soon be producing some National Basketball League stars.”
Ms Cain thanked all members of the community who supported the school raffle.
“We’re so thankful to anyone who contributed in any way to the raffle,” she said.
“The focus has been on building this space over the last few years, so seeing it all come to fruition with the support of the wider community has just been fantastic.”
