ON a bitterly cold Monday Terang College sent a team of 15 students to compete at the Greater Western Region (GWR) cross country at Deakin University in Warrnambool.
Sisters Jessica (year nine) and Tayla Bell (year seven) and year 10 student Bailey Dennis all qualified for the state championships by finishing in the top 12 for their age groups.
After competing against students from approximately 55 other schools in GWR districts, the trio will go on to compete at the state champs at Yarra Glen in July.
For all three of them it will be their first opportunity to compete at the state level, although Jess Bell did qualify for the state champs in 2020, which were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eight students made their debut at the GWR level, including Ben Crawley, Lincoln Baker, Jasper Fraser, Beau Fuge, Ella Clifford, Millie Castersen, Tahnee Sachs and qualifier Bailey Dennis.
Returning students included year 10 boys Nick Eldridge and Darcy Abbot, and year eight girls Lucy Eldridge, Madi Cameron and Emma Hill.
