Swans winning streak ends

CARAMUT’S six game winning streak in the Mininera and District senior football competition has come to an end, going down to reigning premiers Lismore/Derrinallum by 63 points.

The Demons increased their lead at every change in their 10.17.77 to 1.8.14 win at the Caramut Recreation Reserve.

“Lismore/Derrinallum are a very good outfit across the board,” Caramut coach Scott Judd said.

“We didn’t take our chances early, we kicked five behinds in the first quarter and all five shots were very gettable.

“There were three set shots and two that were straight in front on the run, all five could’ve been goals, even if we scored three of those goals, I just feel like it would’ve kept the boys up and about and the first half could have looked different.”

The visitors asserted their dominance in the second term though were inaccurate themselves, kicking three goals and eight behinds to Caramut’s one behind.

The third term saw the Swans kick one goal one behind to the Demons one goal two behinds.

“Once they got a couple of goals in the second quarter it sort of hurt a fair bit for the team.

“In the third quarter we equalled their pressure and their intensity around the ball, and as you can see on the scoreboard, it was quite equal there too.”

The reigning premiers showed their dominance in the final term, kicking four unanswered goals.

“We finished with no-one on the bench in the last quarter and they got the better of us.”

Joel Harriss was best for the Swans in the loss.

“Joel’s been great this season in terms of being co-captain and whatnot.

“He just stands up in those tough games around the ball and in the contest, he was just spot on in terms of what we needed, but just needed a bit more help.”

Matthew Rook, Ryan O’Connor, Scott Judd, Jackson Campbell-Brown and Ethan Jenkins were also named in the best in the loss for the Swans, with Bailey Kelp kicking the only goal.

This week is a massive game for Caramut, with the fourth placed Swans taking on third placed Hawkesdale/Macarthur at the Hawkesdale Recreation Reserve.

“It’s a massive game this week, obviously third versus fourth, our last opportunity at them and we really need to see if we can improve from round one.

“They beat us by 44 points that day so from my side of things to improve on that scoreline and also see if we can get the job done will be big.

“A lot of personnel have changed from both teams since then, we’ve both added a bit of personnel in terms of players but right now we’ve both got a couple of injuries.”
