Terang Green bowls over Timboon Gold
TERANG Green shrugged aside its recent forfeit to record a timely victory over Timboon Gold last Saturday.

TERANG Green shrugged aside its recent forfeit to record a timely victory over Timboon Gold last Saturday.
The club recorded an 64-53 triumph just seven days after it forfeited its clash with powerhouse Warrnambool Gold over Warrnambool’s plan to select an unvaccinated player.
Skippers Barry Stonehouse and Jamie Heffernan recorded wins over Peter Rowe and Daryl Wiggins lost to Barry Stonehouse and Jamie Heffernan, while Dan Morrison’s four split the points with Arthur Finch.
Heffernan was thrilled with the result, with victory pushing Terang to seventh on the ladder.
“It was a very good win and probably our most consistent performance of the year,” he said.
“We kept all rinks level or in front and didn’t get off to a bad start.
“We just kept the rinks close and kicked away towards the end.”
Heffernan said the win would boost Terang’s confidence, adding the side had been performing well despite being on the wrong of results.
Narrow losses to Dunkeld, Mortlake Blue and City Gold could have easily been reversed according to the chairman of selectors in what he believes is one of the more even recent seasons within the playing area.
“When you look at our form in context, we lost by four shots to Dunkeld who are going well, we beat Warrnambool Blue and we only just lost to City Gold who are a top two team this year,” Heffernan said.
“It’s probably the most even the competition has been since I’ve been playing, anyone can beat anyone.
“If you play well on any given day, you can knock over anyone.”
Terang is now preparing for a must-win clash with Koroit Blue (sixth).
Heffernan said his side was eager to close out 2021 with back-to-back wins and momentum behind them.
“Koroit have been up there in the past and probably aren’t going as well as they’d like but they’re still a dangerous side on paper,”
“I’d say it’s a must-win for us. We’re not too far out of the four and can still make it and Koroit are in a similar spot so it’s a big game for both clubs.
“I’m hoping we can give a good account of ourselves, which I’m confident we can.”
Meanwhile, Mortlake Blue was competitive but could not produce the shots required to topple City Gold.
The Lakers won one rink in 59-46 defeat, with Dave McNicoll winning his clash with Greg Ritchie.
Peter Summerhayes was easily beaten by Kevin Carlin, while Darren Grant went down to Vince Moloney.
The Lakers are set to host top side Warrnambool Gold this weekend.
