The Deplorables come to Camperdown
CRICKET, comedy and music are set to bowl over the crowd at Camperdown when hit show The Deplorables takes to the stage in August.
The Deplorables will be at the Theatre Royal (2 Bath Street) on Sunday, August 16 at 7pm.
The comedy tells the story of Australia’s first women’s cricket match in Bendigo in 1874, which saw 2000 spectators attending and raising funds for charity.
Corangamite Shire Council mayor councillor Kate Makin said the 70-minute one act play was suitable for all ages.
“We know our community loves sport and they love a great night of comedy – this brings it all together,” she said.
“The Deplorables is a story of sport, resilience and community spirit – it’s a great yarn that celebrates Australian history with music, humour and heart.”
Cr Makin said Corangamite Shire Council was proud to welcome a touring production that has been so well received across regional Victoria.
“It’s entertaining, it’s uplifting and it’s right here in Camperdown,” she said.
The Deplorables has successfully toured throughout Victoria and Tasmania in 2025 and 2026 to acclaim, full houses and standing ovations.
Written by Christine Davey and presented by award-winning regional theatre company Skin of our Teeth Productions, The Deplorables explores a momentous event and what it means in the 21st century.
Ms Davey said The Deplorables is a joyous and uplifting musical.
“Join us for a tale of extraordinary women doing extraordinary things and the very ordinary men who tried to stop them,” she said.
“These women deserve their place in history and it’s time to bring them back to centre stage where they belong – a tale of extraordinary women doing extraordinary things and the ordinary men who tried to stop them.”
