Theatre company to present comedy farce
THE Camperdown Theatre Company (CTC) is gearing up for a performance full of laughs at the Theatre Royal as they perform Michael Frayn’s comedy ‘Noises Off’.
The play focuses on a fictional performance of a production called ‘Nothing On’ during three stages – the dress rehearsal, the matinee performance and a performance towards the end of the run.
Mishaps occur, lines are missed, tensions flare and the crew are left wondering whether the show will go on at all.
The debacle will be staged within a huge double-storey mansion set which rotates 180 degrees to show the backstage areas in all their calamitous glory.
New director Warren Easley said he was looking forward to seeing everything come together.
“Noises Off is an incredibly funny and physically challenging play,” he said.
“The script is a masterpiece and I have been itching to direct this play for a long time.
“I feel privileged to have such a diverse and talented theatre company behind me.
“The local cast have been busy developing rich characters with idiosyncrasies that blend together incredibly well.
“The audience will not be able to stop laughing as they are introduced to these characters and see the mayhem unfold.”
Mr Easley said the backstage team had been busy behind the scenes preparing for the show.
“Separately, our sets team have also been busy these past months, designing and constructing our double-storey set,” he said.
“This set is almost a character in itself with seven different entry and exit points over the two levels and certain special features that will have the audience in awe.
“I can’t wait for us to share this incredible production with everyone.
“It will be an unforgettable experience for all which you will undoubtedly want to see again.”
CTC president Toby McKenzie said he was excited for the season.
“It is a fast-paced and hilarious production that has really stood the test of time, paving the way for other successful comedies including the likes of ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’,” he said.
“If you are an avid CTC supporter or new to theatre, this is a fantastic show and we invite you to come along and check it out.
“We’re sure you’ll have a laugh.”
Noises Off will play at the Theatre Royal on May 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23 all at 7pm, with a 1pm matinee on May 23.

Guests will be seated at tables and are encouraged to bring their own nibbles.
Tables of 10, six and two are available. Admission is $25, with drinks available at bar prices.
