WOORNDOO Mortlake’s senior footballers will take on Ararat in this Saturday’s Mininera League preliminary final.
The Tigers earnt their spot in this Saturday’s ‘must win’ clash after a solid 51-point victory over Lismore Derrinallum last weekend.
The semi-final clash between the Tigers and the Demons was played in front of a big crowd at Macarthur on Sunday.
Tigers coach Tyson Hogan said after a season of constantly changing player unavailability and injuries, it was pleasing to have his side “back to almost full strength” for the weekend.
“We’ve really had one of those seasons where there’s been blokes come and go in terms of injuries and unavailability so it was nice to get almost our full squad back on the ground,” Hogan said.
“All 21 blokes out there on Sunday played their roles and with up to possibly five looking to come back in, there’s certainly going to be some tough decisions made at the selection table this week.
“But in saying that, it’s a good position to be in. At full strength, and playing our brand of footy, we believe we can match it with anyone.”
Hogan made special mention of the efforts of Will Paulin and Isaac Templeton who were “good against the wind” and Hayden Templeton who once again showed strength and dominated in the ruck.
“Scott Adinsall did a great job on Lockyer and really contained his touches which was pleasing,” Hogan added.
The Tigers will take on Ararat in this Saturday’s preliminary final at Penshurst. The last time the two sides met was back in round six when the Eagles got over the line by 21 points.
While the Eagles will be rebounding from their loss to Tatyoon, Hogan is confident his side can get the job done.
“Ararat has certainly been playing some good footy this season but I’m confident we can get over the line,” Hogan said.
“We’ll just need to play our footy and make use of all opportunities.”
Final scores last weekend were Woorndoo Mortlake 15.15.105 defeated Lismore Derrinallum 8.6.54.
Best for the Tigers were Hayden Templeton, Will Paulin, Damien Pemberton, Liam Cameron, Keilan Webster-Bamford and Cam Howland.
Goals went to Matthew Pemberton (4), Grant Cameron (2), Liam Cameron (2), James Coghlan-West, Jacob Fowler, Tyler Fowler, Richard McCormick, Will Paulin, Damien Pemberton and Sam Uwland.
