TOPS celebrates another busy year
THE Timboon Opportunity Shop (TOPS) continues to thrive, helping to support organisations and clubs in the community to the tune of more than $100,000.

TOPS coordinator Brenda Parfett said the recent annual general meeting celebrated a number of the milestones across the year.
“Some exciting things that have happened at TOPS was the day David walked in and gave TOPS a cheque for $30,000,” she said.
“We were all so excited, it gives everyone such a lift and just shows how we are valued in the community.
“When Ashley Price won Timboon Motors footy tipping and donated his prize of $300 of fuel we were amazed by his generosity.
“Anzac Day was a highlight as we were able to supply morning tea and Anzac biscuits to all who attended the Anzac Day service, plus pay for hamburgers cooked by Jimmy at Fat Cow Café.”
Unfortunately, there were low moments for the dedicated volunteers.
“The saddest part of the year was when Les Sandles, the owner of the TOPS building rang me in July and explained he had to sell the building that TOPS operates from,” Mrs Parfett said.
“After being in the building for 13 years it was quite a shock, we did explore the avenue of a fundraiser, but it was voted against.”
Over the last 12 months, the shop volunteers have continued their impressive track record of giving back to the community.
Mrs Parfett said one of the important things purchased was a defibrillator which is located outside the shop to serve the southern side of Timboon.
“I would like to mention none of this is possible without the volunteers,” she said.
“The committee thank them; there tireless effort of turning up every day to work at TOPS is the success story.
“We thank the community for bringing us goods that we can sort, price and sell.”
Over the past 12 months, Mrs Parfett said 31 organisations had shared in $102,000 which included:
Timboon Recreation Reserve;
Timboon Kindergarten;
Timboon District Hall;
Timboon Action;
Simpson and District Community Centre;
Heytesbury Agriculture Show;
Port Campbell Crayfest;
Port Campbell Surf Life Saving Club;
Timboon Recreation Reserve;
Timboon P-12 School; and
Scotts Creek Indoor Bowls.
