Trains clock up 25 years in Cobden

People from across the district turned out to celebrate the 25th birthday of the popular tourist destination.
All train rides on Sunday were just $1 each, with more than 1200 rides on the day seeing train drivers kept busy.
Allan Hart, who was the Rotary Club of Cobden president at the time of the railway park opening, was impressed with the birthday celebrations.
“It was a fantastic day, we couldn’t have ordered better weather,” he said.
“There was just people and kids everywhere.
“Everyone was just smiling and waving.
“It was a great day.”
Mr Hart and former Rotarian John Wiggins – who was also involved in the start of the project – gave speeches and helped cut the cake on the day.
First opening in June 1994, more than 300,000 rides on the trains have been completed, with the precinct extended.
Mr Hart said the railway park had continued to grow in popularity over the years.
“When John and I started, I don’t think we thought it would get as big as it has,” he said.
“People just come from everywhere to visit.
“The Rotary Club, the volunteers and everyone involved all just do a great job.”
