Unblemished record continues
TERANG Mortlake’s senior footballers made it four wins from four games with a 55 point victory over Port Fairy on Saturday.
After being down by 10 points at quarter time, a seven goal to two second quarter was the catalyst for the Bloods’ 15.17.107 to 7.10.52 win at the Terang Recreation Reserve.
“It’s been pleasing, the main thing is we’ve just shown up ready to play each week and are playing a good team brand of footy,” Terang Mortlake coach Lewy Taylor said of the strong start to the season.
“Guys are really buying into their roles, so we’ve just gotta keep it rolling.”
Terang Mortlake unveiled another recruit in former AFL player Mitchell Golby.
But the former Brisbane Lion 56-gamer only lasted a few minutes.
“Mitch has jumped on board, obviously he’s a close mate of mine, and he’s close mates with Jackson Paine as well.
“Unfortunately, we lost him pretty early with a calf injury, then we lost Keegan Mellington as well at the start of the second, so we were two down for most of the day, which was a good effort by the rest of the boys to keep playing on and to play so well.”
Tyler Vickers was best for the Bloods with 34 disposals, two goals and 13 tackles.
“Tyler’s definitely playing well, it’s been pleasing that a lot of those young guys have really stood up, it makes a difference.
“The younger ones sort of below Tyler’s age, they’re genuinely guns as well, so it makes it a very easy group to coach.”
Taylor himself had 37 disposals, with captain Joe Arundell 31.
The Bloods had a good spread of goal kickers, with Will Kain kicking three.
“Will looked like he was in for a massive day, he probably could have got another three pretty easy, if not more.
“So he had the opportunities, it’s just going to be any week now where he really gets a big bag of goals, he’s in good form, taking good marks and looking dangerous.”
This week Terang Mortlake heads to Friendlies Society Park to take on South Warrnambool, with the Bloods expecting to have Jackson Paine and Sam Wareham back in the lineup.
Port Fairy got the points in the reserves, 6.7.43 to 5.5.35.
Oscar Curran, Bayley Primrose, Matthew Baxter were best for the Bloods, with Baxter and Dylan Wareham kicking two goals each.
Port Fairy won the under 18s by six points, 6.8.44 to 5.8.38.
Cooper Herry, Lachlan Primmer, Jack Farrell were best for the Bloods in the loss, with Mason Barr kicking three goals.
Port Fairy also got the win in the under 16s, 9.7.61 to 6.7.43.
Max Slater, Hugh Kenna, Percy Vaughan and Oliver Clarke were best for Terang Mortlake, with Tyler Ackerley kicking two goals.
The under 14 game saw Terang Mortlake score a 42 point win, 10.5.65 to 3.5.23.
Oliver Clarke, Nate Irving and Noah Conheady were best for the Bloods, with Braxton Sachs and Nate Irving kicking three goals each and Leo Slater two.
Port Fairy had a 44 point win in the under 12 football, 10.10.70 to 4.2.26.
Nelson Sloane, Morgan Primmer and Jack Gilmour were best, with Primmer kicking two goals.

In the Open netball, Terang Mortlake had its first loss of the season, going down 46-34.
Best for the Bloods in the loss were Alice Tanner, Ava Grundy and Madelyn Clarke, with Lyla Grundy shooting 28 goals.
The division one netball saw Port Fairy win 42-18.
Maddison Chesshire scored 13 goals, with Bailee Overweter, Claudia Lee and Lizzie Cook best for the Bloods in the loss.
The division two netball ended in a 27-27 draw.
Ava Nolan scored 17 goals and was named in the best alongside Molly Kavenagh and Sarah Davis.
Port Fairy registered a 24-21 victory in division three.
Sema Meric, Milli Coolahan and Tess Harris were best for Terang Mortlake, with Isla Primrose shooting 14 goals.
Terang Mortlake had a strong 63-16 win in the 17 and under netball.
Lyla Grundy shot 38 goals and Madelyn Clarke 16, with Lila Bennett, Maddison Wallace and Grundy best.
The 17 and under reserves game saw Terang Mortlake scoring a 31-12 win.
Best for the Bloods were Lily Guthrie, Sommer Jones and Emma Hill, with Violet Dillon scoring 20 goals.
The 15 and under game saw Terang Mortlake win 27-25 win.
Tilly Harrison, Zoe Hill and Sadie Baker were best for the Bloods, with Chloe Bouchier scoring 22 goals.
In the 15 and under reserves netball, Terang Mortlake had a 17-9 win.
Dekohda Mcvilly, Isabella Robertson, Francesca Rickard were best for the Bloods, with Poppy Moloney scoring 11 goals.
The 13 and under game saw a big 49-5 win to the Bloods.
Elise Jewell, Audrey Vaughan and Annabelle Blackford were best, with Blackford scoring 34 goals and Imogen Barr 13.
Terang Mortlake’s 13 and under reserves team registered a 25-6 win.
Zarli Dower, Daisy Sargeant and Kora Wines were best for the junior Bloods, with Sargeant shooting 13 goals and Boshier 12.
