Uniting Church prepares for pancake fundraiser
MEMBERS of the Mortlake Uniting Church will man the grills next week to cook up hundreds of pancakes for a good cause.

Each year the fellowship breaks out the batter and barbecues to raise money for charity while observing the church tradition of Shrove Tuesday.
Shrove Tuesday marks the start of the Lentin period on the Christian calendar, which traditionally saw pancakes eaten to consume perishables prior to fasting.
Uniting Church fellowship president Heather Rowe invited the wider community to visit the Mortlake Uniting Church, located on the corner of Shaw and Church streets, next Tuesday to enjoy a delicious breakfast.
“Every year it’s just five dollars with three choices of toping - maple syrup, lemon and sugar and apple and cinnamon,” she said.
“It goes from 10-1pm at the Uniting Church Hall you can get a cup of tea with a pancake, and you can have ice cream or cream.”
All funds raised will be donated to the Uniting Winter Share Appeal.
“The money we raise goes to Share Appeal for under-privileged people,” Mrs Rowe said.
“The appeal helps to fund 21 emergency relief services across Victoria and Tasmania, in addition to homeless and asylum seeker programs.
“It’s for underprivileged people, mainly those who are homeless.”
Mrs Rowe said Pancake Day had long been a hit with the Mortlake community, and was continuing to grow from strength to strength.
“We had a really good year last year we raised a lot of money,” she said.
“We have two kitchens running, one for anyone coming to the hall and one for deliveries.
“Last year we had nearly 100 orders of pancakes delivered up the street.
“But it’s all volunteer run and the money goes back in to the community, so come along on the day and enjoy a pancake breakfast.”
