Traffic delays: A burst water pipe caused delays on Monday when the highway was closed while Wannon Water repaired the damage.

Wannon Water was called to the incident, with traffic diverted along Old Geelong Road via Darlington-Camperdown Road and Camperdown-Lismore Road while crews worked to repair the damage.

The pipe was located within the single open section of road on the Princes Highway where roadworks were taking place, near the Bowen Street intersection.

Wannon Water manager civil maintenance Mick Mahoney said to ensure the safety of its employees, Wannon Water had to engage a traffic management company to detour vehicles around the area.

“The leak was in a pipe below the single lane that is being used during road construction works,” he said.

“This couldn’t be repaired while the road was open, so we had to detour traffic around the site during the repairs which took about three hours to complete on Monday morning.”

The Department of Transport and Planning were contacted for comment, but did not respond prior to publication.
