Wet and wild in Camperdown
CAMPERDOWN managed to escape major incident last Thursday after a downpour wreaked havoc in the morning.
The township received 36mm of rainfall in just one day.
Camperdown State Emergency Services unit controller Bray Wright said the unit only saw one callout to Gunner Street in the afternoon, where a tree was downed.
“The tree had come down on a powerline and a vehicle, which closed the road for about an hour before Powercor disconnected the power and we were able to clear up the tree,” he said.
“That was our only job – I believe Cobden was a lot busier than we were.
“I think we’re very fortunate that, even with the weather conditions, we didn’t see much devastation in the township of Camperdown.

“It goes to show people have heeded the warnings and made sure everything was secure as well.
“We’re proud of all our SES units for their dedication – day and night – to storm events.”
While very little damage was done across the township, the weather did cause some disruptions.
Corangamite Shire Council saw six calls for downed trees and six calls over water over roads and flooded drains, which included Bowyer Street being closed due to flooding.
Six businesses in Manifold Street saw leaks due to the strong rainfall.
