WOORNDOO Mortlake has toppled SMW Rovers in a performance with as many highs as lows.

WOORNDOO Mortlake has toppled SMW Rovers in a performance with as many highsas lows.
The Tigers raced out to a 23 point lead at quarter-time before a spirited Rovers side clawed its way to a 4.6 (30) to 4.2 (26) point lead athalf-time.
But the Tigers came out firing in the second half to extend the lead to nine at the end of the third before snatching a 10.7 (67) to 8.8 (56) win at the final siren.
Woorndoo Mortlake coach Tyson Hogan said the contest was a “well fought out win” forhis side.
“It was certainly a good win,” he said.
“At the half the message was just to get back to the basics and get in first to the ball because we lost that in the second quarter and lost the hunger to win the ball.”
Among the best players for the Tigers were Tyler Fowler, Matthew Pemberton, Bryce Meekes, Damien Pemberton, Liam Cameron and Cameron Howland.
Jordan Buckley and Grant Cameron each bagged a trio of goals to secure victory onthe road.
Hogan said Liam Meekes and Tyler Fowler had made a strong impact on the game in thesecond half.
“Mitch Jubb was also strong in the last quarter,” he said.
“A couple of blokes stood up and made their presence felt to get the boys up.”
The Tigers will face off against Hawkesdale Macarthur in Woorndoo this Saturday, and finding consistent football across four quarters will be the aim moving forward.
“We’ve been good at coming out of the blocks firing but we need to keep that momentum going late in quarters,” Hogan said.
“We can’t let teams kick two, three or four late goals on us."
“That’s how you lose going in to the second quarter."
“We don’t want lapses in concentration because you shouldn’t have to be waiting until quarter time or half-time to be put back in to gear, and a couple of the leaders out on the field should take it on themselves to get sped up and stamp their authority on the game.”
