THE Camperdown and District Hospital Auxiliary Art Exhibition 2023 opens today (Friday) with another display and sale of affordable art by recognized artists.

The exhibition will be held at the Parish hall in Church St from Friday to Sunday.

Doors will open from 6.30pm on Friday, with the exhibition running from 10am until 4pm both Saturday and Sunday.

The exhibition was initiated by former Camperdown resident David Bradshaw OAM almost 50 years ago and has run annually apart from a brief interruption during COVID.

Art enthusiast Andrew Miller said the commitment by David and Helen Bradshaw over so many years has been outstanding in terms of collecting the artworks then presenting the art for sale in the annual exhibitions.

“Art sales and associated opening night events and dinners have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the health services in Camperdown,” he said.

“Not only has the annual exhibition been a wonderful contributor to the Camperdown health services but it has also led to a special level of art appreciation by all those who have attended or purchased art from the exhibition.

“The exhibition, one of Camperdown’s most eagerly-awaited annual events, is moving into a new phase this year.”

Mr Bradshaw has chosen to step back and has handed the art component over to two art enthusiasts, Doug Kane from Korumburra and Andrew Miller from Ballarat.

Mr Miller said both Mr Kane and he have enjoyed participating in the exhibition over more recent years and both have an excellent understanding of the high standards that David and Helen have consistently achieved.

“It is also very important to acknowledge the outstanding work of the many generous contributors from Camperdown and region and the exhibition committee, who have ensured that planning and

catering have always culminated in highly successful exhibitions events,” he said.

“The committee looks forward to the continued enthusiastic support from the community.”

Camperdown Hospital Auxiliary president Ian Currell said the hospital auxiliary is indebted to Mr and Mrs Bradshaw for their help over the years.

“There would be a lot of people in thedistrict who would now have a wonderful art collection thanks to them,” he said.

Tickets for the opening night, which includes refreshments and supper are available from Trybooking and at the door.
